THE number of Australian job adverts has continued to shrink for the eighth straight month, with noticeable drops in Queensland and Western Australia.

With a fall of 2.9 per cent in November the number of job ads is at its lowest level since January 2010, indicating the unemployment rate will rise at the beginning of next year.

The ANZ Job Ads survey was released on Monday, and ANZ head of Australian economics and property research Ivan Colhoun says there isn’t much chance of a revival anytime soon.

“Job advertising has remained soft and is not demonstrating any sign of a pick-up in non-mining labour demand,” Mr Colhoun said.

“However, despite some signs of improvements in a number of economic indicators including building approvals and retail spending, the recovery in non-mining activity remains very tentative.”

The unemployment rate is expected to reach six per cent in 2013, putting even more financial stress on families and businesses in Queensland and Western Australia.

Households and businesses in Queensland and Western Australia have already been subject to increased cost of living prices and some businesses are already at breaking point.
